About US
BACKGROUND
Executive Summary
Thekganang received its
NPO registration certificate in July 2003. However, the Centre only started
operating from October 2004.
The reason for not
commencing operations immediately was due to accommodation problems. Initially
we were offered the use of premises at 1815 Dona Road, Evaton, this stand was
rejected as the owner of this premises had subsequently died. As a result, his
dependents did not allow Thekganang center use of these premises.
We had to outsource new
premises
In October 2004 we
secured new premises situated at 62089, zone 17, Sebokeng. We stated with 5
service user and we move to a bigger house where we still operate in zone 13
Sebokeng
During the period of
non-operation, all clients were put on a waiting list. In October 2004, we
started with 3 clients and 1 staff member. We currently house 24 full time
clients, 14 of which are subsidies in 3(three) different houses and 10 staff members
(5care givers, and 3 volunteers, 1 administrator and 1manager).
This center was
initiated by Nomsa Ettie Raditsela. She has previously worked as a Quality
controller in a ceramic Tile Factory. She subsequently completed an eight-month
training programmer in Community Development. She also attended training in
Israel on National Building, which was part of a Women’s organization Project.
She was a manager at Lebohang Center for mentally disable children.

PARENTS, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
As we are base inside
the township, it is impotent to us to work with parents and community.
Counseling is impotent to the family because some of our clients before they
take treatment, they did horrible things like burning the house or trying to
kill or rap the family. The parents /family after counseling the bond with the
client it helps both family and the patient. We also do awareness campaign were
by parents, care givers, department of mental health and community meet. We all
lean ask questions and work hand in hand to give more support to the patient
Community is helping us
when they buy our hand works and on Sunday at church, we are welcome with our
clients. When some of our patients those who do have family pass away the
community is they to support us. Donation is coming from the community and when
is sports day we play with the community
